[artist statement]

As we become a more homogeneous society, local dialects, traditions, and cultural individuality disappear. The struggle to preserve history and identity has come to the forefront of my art. These paintings address over–development, mortality, destruction, paradise, and decay. By employing the principle of genius of place, the notion that painting should always be adapted to the distinctive qualities of a location, I seek to construct paintings that embody the uniqueness of my subjects. I counter claims of progress with expressions of nature, imagination, and reflection.
