[artist statement]

Finding a place to call home has been a constant throughout my life. Every few years my family would find itself moving to some new place--which brings sadness but also a sense of uneasy excitement for the unknown. This body of work is about yearning to find that sense of home that everyone, at their very core, needs. I've attempted to recreate my experiences through color and texture, from internal, unspoken languages to a new visual translation.

The aesthetic inspiration for this body of work was found in passing landscapes as I traveled from one place to the next. The colors were drawn from grey-blue winter skies and rusted bridges that burned into my memory as they passed along the highway. As I painted, I brought forth the colors and images like a visual Rolodex and found myself spilling over on to the surface.

In this series, I continue to focus on the word pacific, or peaceful, as the primary concept I wish convey. This body of work has led me to see that the ability to create has been a constant in my ever changing world.
