[about]

Sarah Racine is currently pursuing a Fine Art degree at Kutztown University in Kutztown, PA. Ms. Racine plans to use her education to bring awareness of issues that exist outside of our American walls. She plans to further this desire with a trip to Cambodia and Africa this summer to teach art as a trade and explore how art therapy can be used to heal victims of human trafficking and war. Her work has been shown at Kutztown University and at Moondancer Winery, Wrightsville, PA.  She has executed a number of commissioned pieces in public and private sectors.

[artist statement]

It is my desire to use my art to bring awareness of a number of issues that our world just seems to pass by. Some of these issues include global perspectives on human trafficking, homelessness, children becoming orphans due to war, and diseases that have taken the lives of many. Not only do I want to display these issues in my drawings, but I also want to show how different they are perceived in each region. It isn't my desire to create just because it is my job, but to create because there is something deeper inside of me that yearns to be spoken. Art has become a way for me to verbalize how I view the world.

As an artist, my creative language is communicated through the expression of realistic imagery. Woven into this language is the passion for culture, the human figure and seeing the beauty in the broken.  I have found that a facial expression speaks thousands of words and that is why I like to focus on portraiture. For an example, a person may seem poor at first glance, but it is their eyes that have a way of capturing hope, life, and a sense of truth.

Working with different drawing materials allows me to execute my ideas in different styles which creates a unified diverse body of work. Combining all of these elements give my artwork a unique style that allows me to connect to the world. The end result is somewhat of a story board that engages the viewer’s sight and mind.
